I have a bit of an obsession with tiles. Especially Islamic, Art Nouveau & Mexican tiles. A bit like my obsession with fabric I suppose: I would (and do) hang fabrics on my walls as if they were works of art. And since tiling most of my kitchen a la Mejicana, I thought it only fitting to put the leftover tiles to good use. It's like I always say - a beautiful dress should always have a matching cushion case. In this case, a tiled kitchen should have its matching coasters. Here's how:
Get some tiles. Get some felt. Get some glue (I like UHU).
Cut felt to match tile.
Stick felt to bottom of tile using glue.
Now make a dress and use leftover fabric to make a cushion cover.
Great idea - I want my kitchen to me mexican influenced and this is a good (and cheap) first step to getting the look. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteaw, I sort of wonted to do something similar but never got round to it. they look super lovely! I think a picture of the mexican tiled kitchen is in order, you mede me curious :-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea, I adore these kind of tiles too...the med is full of them and anytime I go on holiday I end up photographing them more than anything else! Hehe! Loving the new banner by the way, gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love my Mexican tiled kitchen - just so colourful and happy! Another great addition are those tall glass Mexican candles with the religious iconography and text like "angel de la guardia" and "espiritu santo" - I'm not really religious, but I love the images and what they imply, and they smell pretty too!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks! As soon as I get around to tidying up, a kitchen photo may well be in order ;) Are you on Instagram? I'll be more likely to post a quick photo there than here - I'm @elisalex if you want to follow along!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yep, it was time for a little blog makeover - still so much I want to do though but never enough time... I adore colourful tiles like this, just so cheerful and pretty. I wish I could cover my whole house in them!
ReplyDelete"Result: you're at my house." I love your writing style. So homey and friendly. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love these! I'm a huge fan of those tiles, too, but I live in an apartment and can't install them, so this is a great way to use them impermanently!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! Love that you catch up with my blog. Hope all's well on your side. Big love xxx
ReplyDeleteOr you could just stick them all over the place with double sided tape...?! x
